These rules apply to both rooms, and are essentially good conduct guides.
We’d like to be able to do without them, as they generally equate to good
manners and common sense, but an appalling number of people seem to lack these
traits and will complain if there is no forewarning that yes, these are real
people you are talking to, and yes, they get irritated at stupid antics just as
much as people do in real life.
Respect
This is perhaps the most important rule in this place. Some say that 'respect
is earned' but you wouldn't be too popular if you swore at and insulted everyone
you met, would you? The same goes for this room. We ask that you respect these
rules, the operators, and most of all, your fellow patrons. The rules are here
to be followed. Not to be picked at, or be made into loopholes. We're not
lawyers, we can't write all inclusive rules which handle everything thrown at
them. What we do have are people who are willing to uphold these written rules;
that don’t mean they've memorized every word on these pages, it means they
understand them. We allow swearing, debates, arguments, and the like in the OOC
room, but if someone, operator or not, asks you to stop because you're offending
them, do so.
This isn't a license to constantly complain to the ops about how
soandso teases you occasionally. If we squashed out everything that
bothered people, we're be a pretty boring chatroom. And if you've visited
the OOC room during peak hours, you'd know this rule is really only applicable
to people who really go over the top.
Spamming
A permanent ban will be given to any spammer that decides to flood either
room. This includes repeated posts and advertisements. We don't mind if you want
to let people know where you are on the net, we do mind if that's all you want
to do while your here. If the first thing you post when you come in is a link,
you're well on your way to a boot out.
Bots/scripts
As a general rule, we don’t allow any bots in either room. Our definition of
a bot is a script in your IRC client that will respond to events and post
messages in the room or in private messages. A script that modifies your own
text before sending it out is alright, like a colour script, is okay, a script
that messages anyone who comes in with a ‘hello’ is not.
Using Copy written Material
Want to change your name to Gandalf and make a few jokes in the OOC? Fine.
But do not even THINK about bringing a character that is not your own IC. Aside
from the copyright issues, we expect you to be a bit more creative with your
characters, especially since we have an extensive Character Creation section to
get you started.
Although not technically copyright to anyone, this rule includes well known
historical figures and literary characters who have fallen out of copyright. No
Napoleons here, no Ophelias either.
